Starting December 7, 2008 the Cumberland Police Department is scheduled for a 4 day on- site assessment as part of a program to achieve accreditation by verifying it meets professional standards.

COMMUNITY SURVEY RESULTS

In June-July 2008, Chief of Police John Desmarais, initiated a police survey with the intent to determine where improvements are needed within the community and how the citizens of Cumberland feel about their police department. See the results.

The Cumberland Police Department is releasing this information pursuant to RI
General Laws, also known as the Sexual Offender Registration and Community Notification Act. These individuals are subject to community notification of their pending release.

OFFICER NUNES COMMENDATION

On August 20th Officer Nunes received an commendation from the Town Council for his performance which resulted in the arrest of 3 bank robbers in Woonsocket.

CPD HEADQUARTERS DEDICATED

The Cumberland Police Department was renamed and dedicated the "John J. Partington Public Safety Building" on June 1, 2008


 

CALEA - Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc.

A team of Assessors representing the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc.  (CALEA), will confirm the Cumberland Police Department’s ability to comply with state of the art standards in four basic areas:  policy and procedures, administration, operations, and support services. 

As part of the on- site assessment, agency employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments at a public information session on Monday, December 8, 2008 6:00 pm at 45 Broad Street, Cumberland, Rhode Island. 

Agency employees and the public are also invited to offer comments by calling 401-241-1474 on Monday, December 8th between the hours of 1PM and 4PM.  Comments will be taken by the Assessment Team.

Telephone comments as well as appearances at the public information session are limited to ten minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA’s standards.  A copy of the standards is available at the Cumberland Police Department.  Local contact is Captain Christine Crocker 401-333-2500.
